560 Autochthonous leprosy in Missouri: A predictable result of climate change?

چکیده
We recently diagnosed a middle aged Missouri native with multibacillary leprosy. His travel history was unremarkable and authocthonous acquisition of the leprosy bacillus suspected. Over past decade range nine banded armadillo has expanded northward, likely from climate change. The patient reported frequent exposure to armadillos near his home suggesting potential for vector borne local transmission. undertook study several areas around state Missouri. Two teams evaluated killed either by traffic or during legal culls on farmland. Liver, spleen, heart were harvested when present. Specimens preserved separately in 70% EtOH geographic location source animal noted. DNA extracted these tissues presence Mycobacterium leprae DNA. Approximately 15% (at time this submission - analysis ongoing) samples positive M. leprae. Several specimens immediate area affected patient. have confirmed small percentage Missouri, that they are autochthonous This is one further example infectious disease must now be considered outside its typical due changes climate.

Dynamics of habitat changes as a result of climate change in Zagros Mountains Range (Iran), a case study on Amphibians
Climate change is currently considered a serious threat for many species and recognized as one of the most important factors in the global biodiversity loss. Among animal groups, amphibians are known to be among the most sensitive groups of vertebrates to climate change due to their inability to travel long distances, and mountain habitat species are more exposed to climate change pressures tha...

Classroom experiments that purport to demonstrate the role of carbon dioxide’s far-infrared absorption in global climate change are more subtle than is commonly appreciated. We show, using both experimental results and theoretical analysis, that one such experiment demonstrates an entirely different phenomenon: The greater density of carbon dioxide compared to air reduces heat transfer by suppr...
متن کاملPredicting extinctions as a result of climate change.
Widespread extinction is a predicted ecological consequence of global warming. Extinction risk under climate change scenarios is a function of distribution breadth. Focusing on trees and birds of the eastern United States, we used joint climate and environment models to examine fit and climate change vulnerability as a function of distribution breadth. We found that extinction vulnerability inc...

Background and Aim: Climate change on the earth is changing faster than ever before in the history. Cities are highly vulnerable to this climate change. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate climate change in the metropolis of Tehran during the period 1991-2020 and help understand the limitations that cities may have in confronting climate change. Materials and Methods: This descri...
